Kick off the holidays at the Southern Oregon Guild of Artists & Artisans and craft you OWN decorations to treasure all season long. A variety of sips and snacks will be available to enjoy while you work...
1-3:30PM: Holiday Wreathmaking | Make a seasonal evergreen wreath with local Illinois Valley florist Lark Staples of Singing Larks Farm! During this hands-on workshop inside the Guild Gallery, you will weave the natural world into your own unique masterpiece, learning the art of selecting, arranging, and preserving a stunning array of florals and greenery. As you craft your wreath you’ll find inspiration in the vibrant color and texture of nature, and the end result will be a testament to your creativity and the splendor of Southern Oregon’s flora. Lark will bring several kinds of locally foraged evergreen foliage to work with as well as fun additions like eucalyptus and huckleberry. She will walk you through the steps of how to build a wreath and then we will decorate it with different cones, berries, dried flowers, ribbons and more! All materials and tools are provided. This is a fun and creative project and you will walk away with a lovely wreath to decorate your home for the holiday season!
ABOUT OUR FACILITATOR: Lark Staples is the woman behind Singing Larks Farm, your local flower farm here in the Illinois Valley! Next year will be her eighth season growing and designing flowers for the people of our community. Lark and her husband grew up here and returned over ten years ago and now have a beautiful family with two sweet kids. Lark designs floral arrangments for weddings and events and loves offering arrangements for birthdays, anniversaries, and the everyday surprise! She really enjoys doing workshops where she can meet and connect with people, sharing her skills, and seeing how people make it their own!
3:30-5PM: Ornaments with Donna Parrish | MAKE ONE & TAKE ONE - This is a chance to make a few of your very own ornmanets and a few for the Guild to sell as a holiday fundraiser. Stay after you make a wreath or drop-in and join us for this short session (no pre registration is required). We'll have dried okra pods for painted santas, clothespin reindeer, wooden hearts, ribbon, dried greenery, glue, and more available to work with. Donna will lead you through various design options! Ornament making is FREE, however cash donations are greatly appreciated but not mandatory.
ABOUT OUR FACILITATOR: Donna Parrish spent most of her early life in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina. With a degree in mathematics and a teaching certificate, she began a long and evolving career in education—a path she continues to explore and develop. After many years immersed in a primarily analytical world, Donna turned her attention to the arts, exploring diverse media that offer new depth and balance to her life. This creative journey has opened up space for joy and peace, which she experiences deeply while working with materials like beads, polymer clay, and vibrant acrylics on canvas. Her jewelry, often simple in design, carries a sense of casual elegance, allowing the natural beauty of the stones and beads to take center stage. In her abstract paintings, Donna embraces rich textures and passionate colors, striving to create work that uplifts and inspires. Donna served on the Guild Board of Directors as Treasurer from 2012-2024 and is currently involved with the Guild as a Member and Volunteer.
