We are excited to once again host local fiber artist Corbin Brashear of Wild & Wooly Feltworks at the Guild on Sunday February 23 from 12-4PM for a hands-on workshop, Needle Felted Fairies of Love! Explore the wonder of the magical felting needle and its power to transform imagination into form, as we create lusciously colored fairies using a variety of wool. These whimsical beings are perfect for seasonal decorating and a fun craft to try during the winter months.
Participants will leave class with a fundamental knowledge of needle felting techniques, where to source felting supplies/materials, and how to create small 3D felted sculptures. No previous needle felting experience is required as this technique is very forgiving and lends itself well to artistic exploration! Corbin will encourage students to feel safe taking creative risks and being surprised by the outcome. Send your inner art critic on vacation and instead embrace the pure joy of creating!
Workshop Overlay: Intro to felting: how needles work, etc.; create the basic fairy shape out of wool, rolling and shaping; make arms, legs, feet; make facial features, eyes, lips; embellish your fairy with hearts, outfits, wings, or hats; laugh, stab wool, repeat...! You are welcome to bring your own natural objects to contribute to your fairy, e.g. crystals, shells, moss, or other small objects.
**Please bring a bagged snack or lunch to enjoy on break**
Class fees are on a sliding scale $60-$85. When you register, please honestly self-select your contribution. Choose a tier that supports you to commit and that may be a stretch but not a hardship. By paying at the highest level you help subsidize others and offer scholarships to support a wider range of people. If the sliding scale would be a hardship and you’d like to request a scholarship, please send an email to
ABOUT CORBIN BRASHEAR
Class will be led by Southern Oregon fiber artist Corbin Brashear, who finds inspiration in the beautiful environment of the Siskiyou Mountains of Southern Oregon and Northern California, where she has lived for the past 25 years. Corbin lives part of the year outdoors on a wild, remote and deeply beautiful piece of land on the South Fork of the Smith River, about 13 miles from the Pacific Ocean, as the crow flies. Living simply outdoors has allowed her to deepen her artistic expression and raw materials with which to work.
Each sculpture is created in her riverside “studio” among the alders. She walks the banks of the river or the beach daily in search of treasures such as driftwood, kelp, lichen and feathers, which she weaves together with wool using a felting needle to sculpt and coax an elemental being into form. Corbin receives great joy from bringing these nature sprites and sculptures forth into the world. They are created with the intention of blessing one’s home and life with the peace, energy and power of wild and sacred places.
For the last 15+ years Corbin has been leading needle felting workshops, both locally and in Northern California, for both adults and kids. She loves sharing this satisfying and whimsical art form with people, helping to guide her students to connect with their own inner creativity and sense of magic. Her wooly artwork can be viewed and purchased at www.wildandwoolyfelt.com
