Jim Lettis, lives in Cave Junction, Oregon, with his wife, Celia. He is a retired middle school teacher, having taught and coached for 33 years in the Sunnyvale Elementary School District, California. After he retired from 33 years of teaching and moved to the Illinois Valley in 2002, he has been able to devote more time to his passions of photography, gardening, reading, and writing. Through his local and global photography, Jim captures scenes from everyday life that we might take for granted. As a seasoned world traveller, Jim also aims to showcase the beauty of cultural diversity that makes us unique, yet binds us together. Nature, architecture, light, and color all play a role in his photographic images, through which you are transported to view both the unique and mundane! Jim has won ribbons as well as “Best of Class” for photography in the Josephine County Fair in the semi-professional category. He was one of the artists featured in the “Art About Wine” exhibit at the Grants Pass Art Museum and had a one-man exhibition in Medford’s Craterian Theatre. For many years, Jim also participated at the Saturday Arts and Crafts Market (SACM) and at local Art Fairs in Jacksonville, Brookings, and Applegate Valley Days.
Jim not only delights in creating photos, but written stories that light up our eyes and imagination. His first book, The Squire and the White Dragon is a Camelot spinoff. His second, How to Catch a Whopper is a whimsical tale full of interesting creatures. Both children’s books are in rhyme which seems to catch children’s interest as young as three years of age. Jim’s first novel Spirit Bow: The Saga of Sean O’Malley is historical fiction. All three of Jim's books, various greeting cards, matted and framed photographs can be found at the Guild Gallery in Kerby and at numerous other galleries and exhibit spaces throughout Southern Oregon.
