Join local fiber artist, Caryne Mount, for Go Ahead-PLAY with Your Fabric, a weekend workshop on Saturday and Sunday August 3 & 4 at the Guild Gallery & Art Center in Kerby! During this hands-on 2-day workshop, you will explore fabric manipulation, embellishment, color dye addition/subtraction, painting, stamping, and other treatments that will turn ordinary warp and weft into something completely unique, new, and different! There will be discussion on fabric, fiber, properties, hand-outs, demos, and of course, plenty of opportunity to explore and create for all attending.
Students will walk away with extensive handouts about each fabric process, samples made using various treatments, and the skills to continue on their own at home. Caryne will provide ALL materials needed, including safety gear for students. Class will be both indoors/outdoors so please prepare accordingly and bring a bagged lunch to enjoy for both days.
Class fees are sliding scale $75-$100. When you register, please honestly self-select your contribution. Choose a tier that supports you to commit. By paying at the highest level you help subsidize others and offer scholarships to support a wider range of people. If the sliding scale would be a hardship and you’d like to request a scholarship, please send an email to
Caryne Mount is an award-winning art-to-wear designer, textile lover, and textile/sewing educator. Caryne has been sewing all her life! First self-taught by hand, then with a small toy machine she got for Christmas, and finally she graduated to her mom's Singer. Equipped with only pattern instructions and a sewing machine manual, she was able to make the clothing designs she had in her head come to life! In 1987, Caryne finally “took the plunge" to be a clothing designer, and began her own couture clothing line. She primarily specializes in upcycled coats created from vintage kimono, obi, and other various Japanese textiles. Her intuitive and playful creation process does not include patterns, but is rather dictated by colors, textures, and drape--all inspired by nature. In 2000, she was awarded an individual artist grant in order to study textile surface design, with the end gift being her studies and a gallery show "The Four Elements: My Journey into Surface Design." Caryne loves teaching sewing and textiles, especially when light bulbs go off in student's heads! A variety of Caryne's work is currently available for purchase at Gallery One in Grants Pass, OR and the Guild Gallery & Art Center in Kerby, OR.
