Dana Bilello Barrow Ceramicist
Dana is a ceramic and visual artist who recently moved to Jacksonville Oregon after starting her ceramics career in Northern California. Dana first developed her passion for clay over 15 years ago when she took classes at Sierra College in Rocklin.
For years Dana struggled with glazes feeling that glazes hide the clay rather than celebrate the clay.  When she studied various naked clay techniques under Eduardo Lazo, her journey changed and took her on a decades long exploration of alternative finishes. Dana eventually developed a smoked resist finish.
Dana’s most recent altered and folded ceramic forms are a direct result of her time spent on the Pacific Northwest coast. While clay is her primary medium, Dana secretly aspires to be a painter and recently alcohol inks have fulfilled that desire. For her, the movement of the ink across paper is in keeping with her water theme and resembles the flow of water across sand.
Dana’s work is in private and public collections in the United States and abroad. Her work has won several awards including first place at The Kennedy Gallery 20/20 Show and Elk Grove Art Center’s Annual Ceramics Show, third place winner at Oakwilde Sculpture Ranch 52 artists show, and Placer Arts Membership Juried Art Show. One of the greatest highlights of Dana’s career has been two showings in the highly regarded Pasadena Showcase House in Southern California.
